Academy Conversion Update June 2022
Joining the Mater Ecclesiae Catholic Multi Academy Trust
On Thursday 19th May 2022 the Regional School Commissioner for Lancashire and West Yorkshire and her Headteacher Advisory Board approved, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education, the application of St Augustine’s to convert to become an academy as part of the Mater Ecclesiae Catholic Multi Academy Trust.
Since then, the Trust Board, the Headteachers and Senior Leaders of all of the seven schools joining the Trust in the first wave have worked tirelessly to ensure that the transition to an academy is as smooth as possible.
With a busy end of term planned for all and the summer looming the Trust, along with the Headteachers of the seven schools joining in Wave 1, have agreed with the Department for Education and Lancashire Local Authority that meeting the original conversion date of 1st September 2022 would put too much pressure on all involved.
With that in mind a joint decision has been taken to work to a new conversion deadline of 1st November 2022. This will ensure that the remaining work that needs to be done to complete the transition and put in the new Trust infrastructure can be completed without haste.
We remain 100% committed to joining and making the Mater Ecclesiae Catholic Multi Academy Trust the great place to learn and work we know it can be and look forward to sharing with you the exciting new developments that we have planned over the coming months.
If you have any questions about the process, please do not hesitate to contact the Headteacher.

The Consultation Period is now over. Please see below for the outcome of the Governors meeting to consider the responses.
All the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lancaster have been invited by our bishop, Rev Paul Swarbrick to consider converting to an academy and join a Catholic Multi Academy Trust (MAT). Please see his introductory letter below.
There will be three MATs in the diocese (which stretches from Preston to the Scottish Borders). Our MAT will be the Mater Ecclesiae (Mother of the Church) and will eventually be made up of the 23 Catholic primary and secondary schools in the greater Preston area. Bishop Paul has asked everyone to convert and join one of the the MATs by 2026.
The Governors of St Augustine's Catholic Primary School feel that this is an exciting opportunity and are considering being in Phase 1 of the schools converting to an academy. This process will take place this school year in readiness for a potential September 2022 conversion.
As part of the conversion process the Governors will consult all school stakeholders; which includes:
- Staff members
- The Parish of St John XXIII
- Lancashire County Council
The consultation period commences on Monday 6th December 2021 and finishes on Friday 21st January 2022 at 3pm.
Please see the additional information below for parents (other stakeholders have been contacted directly). This includes a letter outlining the process and a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). Please note the FAQs will be updated a couple of times during the consultation period.
Any questions or feedback can be returned using the Consultation Response Form below to firstname.lastname@example.org
Following the close of the consultation period the Governing Board of St Augustine's Catholic Primary School will consider all the responses received and make a final decision as to whether they wish to start the academisation conversion process this school year. We will keep stakeholders updated of the Governors' decision and next steps.
If any parent wishes to discuss this further please email the address above or contact the Headteacher, Mr John Entwistle.
